When we think of comfort food, the first thing that comes to mind is instant noodles. We survived on Maggi when we were broke, whether it was summer, monsoon, or winter; it was our breakfast staple and a quick, sumptuous midnight snack. Who would have guessed that it would also be something we would look forward to when planning a holiday in the hills? A bowl of Maggi in the hills has a different charm altogether, served steaming hot with a healthy dose of eggs, tomatoes, onions, and other condiments. What is the super-secret ingredient that makes it so tasty? Every hill station, whether in Kasol, Manali, Mussoorie, Simla, or Rishikesh, has a small tea stall known for its take on instant noodles! We’ve selected three of the best for you.
Shimla
Shimla, with its snow-capped mountain peaks and green pastures, provides yet another reason to visit the hills as soon as possible. Maggi! There are tiny tea stalls just before entering Hasan Valley that serve piping hot bowls of some delectable Maggi. There are also many hotels in Shimla with spectacular mountain views.
Sikkim
Yumesamdong, also known as Zero Point, is one of those restaurants that only serves Maggi. The weather is so harsh and cold that you require this bowl of warm comfort food while sitting approximately 154 kilometres from Gangtok! Throughout the year, Zero Point is covered in a layer of sparkling white snow, and if you’re not used to travelling to such dizzying heights, head straight to the small stalls that line the road, serving large bowls of this delectable goodness.
Mussoorie
Are you planning a trip to Doom Gaon? On your way, you must stop at Mussoorie Road. This is one of India’s most famous instant points, with stacks of tea stalls serving Maggi. Many tourists come here just to try the delicious Maggi and bread omelette served with copious amounts of butter. Make a point of visiting the Lovely Omelette Centre as well. This small nook apparently serves the best omelettes in the country, or so most people claim.
